Before you turn on your bathroom tap to drink, do be aware that it is generally not advisable to drink tap water in the hotel. You need not worry though, as you are likely to find hot water flasks or electrical boilers at your disposal in your room. You may also want to consider purchasing cheap bottled mineral water, some of which may be provided free of charge in your hotel room.
Some other helpful information
Do note that showing a photo ID, such as your passport, is required when checking into your hotels. Worried about getting lost while wandering outside your hotel? Do not fear, as your hotel room card would contain all the information that is needed to ask for directions and guide you back to your hotel. Hence do remember to bring it with you wherever you go.

It really depends where in China. China is HUGE. Can you tell us where exactly ? Shanghai ? Beijing ?
On the Travel Channel the China Hotels toilets were all in the floor. People have to squat over the hole to go potty. I don’t even know if they have toilet tissue.
I am a 34 year old American woman who just moved to Shanghai last month. The hotels that I have stayed in a are just like the ones in the US, some even better. They have the usual, Holiday Inn, Weston, Hampton etc…it really depends on your companies travel expense allowance. The food in these hotels is perfectly good to eat without fear of getting ill. The toilets are the same as the US, however go on the plane because the airport bathrooms are holes in the ground.
If you chose to stay in a very local hotel, it might be different but the hotels that I have mention do have TP and every thing you would need. Public bathrooms though, even those with a regular toilet, sledom have TP. Carry some with you.
If your going to a modernized part of China you’ll definately get a hotel with a toilet. Actually china is becoming more modern day by day since the olympics are being held at Beijing in 2008. I stayed at a hotel in China. It was average. It wasn’t dirty or anything. It was prettty good! If you go to ShangHai then you’ll DEFINATELY find a super nice hotel there.

I think there is china town in every country in the world. You can just go considered china town in your country to get used to it before you get going to the real china country. The hotels are just like others left. There are some good and some bad. In beijing are many nice hotels. But where exectly you want are going?
